Deinosuchus is an extinct relative of the alligator that
lived 80 to 73 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous Period.
Measuring up to 40 ft and weighing up to 9.4 tons, its overall appearance
was fairly similar to its smaller relatives. It had large, robust teeth that
were built for crushing, and its back was covered with thick semispherical
osteoderms. |

Pterosaur from Solnhofen, Germany
AUTHENTIC
- EXTREMELY RARE!
Ctenochasma gracile
150 Million years ago, Jurassic
Solnhofen formation, Germany
|
|
This incredibly preserved pterosaur is one of the rarest species of flying
reptiles ever discovered, Ctenochasma gracile. A
medium-large pterosaur, Ctenochasma gracile was equipped with
a round, elongated snout, a smaller head, very long flying arms, and
extremely powerful hind legs. Scientists believe that features such as
these enabled this pterosaur to feed on small creatures that it probably
captured from the water by flying low over the surface and scooping them up
into it's trap-like mouth. Found at the Solnhofen quarry, the same
quarry where Archaeopteryx was discovered, this
extremely rare pterosaur is naturally surrounded by the incredibly beautiful
manganese and iron oxide dendrite formations for which Solnhofen is also
noted. This pterosaur has been professionally etched around the
perimeter to add contrast and aid in the visibility of the amazing details
of this magnificent specimen. |

Paleontology is the study of ancient life. The scientists that study
paleontology are called paleontologists, and they study
ancient life
by excavating and analyzing the fossil remains of animals and plants
that are entombed within rocks.
