Ankylosaurus
Ankylosaurus, or "fused lizard," is a genus of
ankylosaurid dinosaur containing one species, Ankylosaurus
magniventris. Although a complete skeleton has not been
discovered and several other dinosaurs are represented by more extensive
fossil material, Ankylosaurus is often considered the archetypal armored
dinosaur. Other ankylosaurids shared its well-known features—the
heavily-armored body and massive bony tail club—but Ankylosaurus was the
largest known member of the family. The most obvious feature of
Ankylosaurus is its armor, consisting of massive knobs and plates of bone,
known as osteoderms or scutes, embedded in the skin. |

Fossil Dinosaur Toe Bone
Tarbosaurus bataar #1
Cretaceous, 67 million years ago
China
Measures approx. 3" long.
SOLD
Tarbosaurus and Tyrannosaurus are closely related
genera, if not synonymous. Like most known Tyrannosaurids,
Tarbosaurus was a large bipedal predator, weighing more than a ton and
equipped with dozens of large, sharp teeth. It had a unique locking
mechanism in its lower jaw and the smallest forelimbs relative to body
size of all tyrannosaurids, renowned for their disproportionately tiny,
two-fingered forelimbs.
