Hoplophoneus was a medium-sized saber-toothed cat from the Badlands of Nebraska. This saber cat possessed a robust body with sharp saber teeth, or canine teeth, that it used to kill its prey. Its family, the Nimravids, would give rise to true cats, hyaenas, civets, and mongooses.
