Theropod Dinosaur
Tyrannosaurus rex
Tyrannosaurus, meaning "tyrant lizard", is a
genus of theropod dinosaur. The species Tyrannosaurus rex (rex
meaning "king" in Latin), commonly abbreviated to T. rex, is a
fixture in popular culture. It lived throughout what is now western North
America during the Late Cretaceous Period, and was among the last non-avian
dinosaurs to exist prior to the K-T extinction event. Like other
tyrannosaurids, Tyrannosaurus was a bipedal carnivore with a massive
skull balanced by a long, heavy tail. Relative to the large and powerful
hindlimbs, Tyrannosaurus forelimbs were small, though unusually
powerful for their size, and bore two clawed digits. Although other
theropods rivaled or exceeded Tyrannosaurus rex in size, it was the
largest known tyrannosaurid and one of the largest known land predators. The
largest complete specimen, named "Sue", measures 42 ft long, and 13.1 ft
tall at the hips.

DASPLETOSAURUS
Daspletosaurus, meaning
"frightful lizard", is a genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that
lived in western North America about 75 million years ago during the late
Cretaceous. Although smaller than T.rex, the Daspletosaurus could
still reach lengths of 30 feet. Like other tyrannosaurids, it was a
bi-pedal predator equipped with dozens of large, serrated teeth.

GORGOSAURUS
Gorgosaurus, meaning "dreadful
lizard", is a genus of tyrannosaurid dinosaur that lived in
western North America about 75 million years ago during the late
Cretaceous. Although smaller than Tyrannosaurus rex, the
Gorgosaurus could still reach lengths of 30 feet. Like other
tyrannosaurids, it was a bi-pedal predator equipped with dozens of large,
serrated teeth. Fossil evidence shows that tyrannosaurids,
Gorgosaurus and Daspletosaurus may have coexisted.

Raptor Teeth
The Dromaeosaurs are one of the
most popular dinosaurs, probably because of the Jurassic Park movies. This
family of theropod dinosaurs includes the Dromaeosaurus, Velociraptor,
Deinonychus and Utahraptor dinosaurs. The teeth from Morocco that we have
shown below were found as isolated teeth and not associated with a full
skeleton and are not positively identified as any of the aforementioned
Dromaeosaurs. So we will continue to label them as unidentified raptor
teeth until the teeth can be associated with a positively identified
skeleton.
We do not believe that these teeth are from
the Deltadromeus as others have suggested. From a logical
standpoint, the fossil skull of Deltadromeus, a mid-sized predator, would
have been the size of an Allosaurus, which have teeth much larger than the
raptors. This alone suggests that our Moroccan raptor teeth cannot be from
a Deltadromeus. |

Thescelosaurus, "beautiful but neglected lizard," roamed western
North America from about 75 million years ago until the Cretaceous-Tertiary
extinction 65 million years ago and was one of the last dinosaurs on Earth.
A specimen of Thescelosaurus, nicknamed "Willo," was the first
dinosaur ever found with a fossilized heart. Some scientists believe
that the organ is a four-chambered heart more like those of mammals or birds
than those of reptiles, suggesting the animal represents an evolutionary
link between crocodilians and birds |

Struthiomimus, meaning "ostrich mimic", is a genus of ornithomimid
theropod dinosaur from the late Cretaceous Period of what is now Alberta,

limited opposability between the first finger and the other two, large eyes
and toothless jaws. |

Ornithomimus is a genus of ornithomimid theropod dinosaur from the Late
Cretaceous Period of what is now North America. Ornithomimus is
characterized by a foot with three weight-bearing toes, long slender arms
and a long neck with a birdlike, elongated, toothless, beaked skull.
Ornithomimus would have looked much like a modern day Ostrich, except
for its long tail. It would have been a swift runner. It is believed that
Ornithomimus probably was an omnivore, meaning that it ate just about
anything that it could find, both plants, like seeds and berries, as well as
animals, like grubs, insects, and worms. |

Rebbachisaurus
Rebbachisaurus
is a
sauropod
dinosaur
of the superfamily
Diplodocoidea that lived
during the early Cretaceous period in the once heavily wooded areas of North
Africa. Closely related to Diplodocus, this plant-eating
dinosaur had a small head, a long, graceful neck, and a whip-like tail.
Rebbachisaurus
is distinguished from other sauropods by its unusually tall, ridged back. |

Triceratops
Triceratops is a genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur
which lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 68 to 65 million years
ago in what is now North America. Triceratops was one of the last dinosaur
genera to appear before the great Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. The
term Triceratops literally means "three-horned face." With triceratops three
facial horns, large bony frill, and large four-legged body, Triceratops is
one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs and the best known ceratopsid. |
