An ichythosaur was a marine reptile, and its name literally means “fish lizard.” This group of reptiles lived during the same era as the dinosaurs, but are not related to the dinosaurs.  Although they look similar to the modern day dolphin, the dolphins are Cetaceans, which are mammals.
