Thuya Burl comes from a tree that is the only known representative of its genus, Tetraclinis articulate.  This tree is native to northwestern Africa, specifically to the Atlas Mountain regions of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The Thuya is indigenous in the Essaouira region of Morocco. The exploitation
is regulated because of its scarcity.
