Afrovenator means “African hunter”

This middle to late Jurassic carnivore made its home in what is now modern day Agadez, Niger (Tiourarén Formation). Reaching lengths of 26 feet long, this slender theropod is a beloved member of the Megalosaur family. Its name means “African hunter” in reference to it being an apex, opportunistic predator that targeted large plant-eating dinosaurs such as the sauropod Jobaria.
